GARY LUBNER
Gary Lubner serves as a dedicated Trustee of One to One Children's Fund, bringing extensive leadership experience and a deep-rooted commitment to social justice to his role. His work with the Fund focuses on developing innovative approaches to supporting vulnerable children and families, particularly in pioneering transformative healthcare and support programs for children affected by HIV/AIDS, trauma, and disability.
His passion for protecting and empowering vulnerable children stems from his early years in South Africa, where he studied Finance and Accountancy at the University of Cape Town. During the 1980s, he played an active role in the anti-apartheid movement, founding and chairing two anti-apartheid organisations. This foundational experience shaped his lifelong commitment to social justice and systemic change.
Until early 2023, Gary served as CEO of Belron, where over 22 years he grew the company's sales more than sevenfold to approximately 6 billion euros, achieving a valuation of 21 billion euros in 2021. Under his leadership, the company expanded to employ 30,000 people across 38 countries. While continuing to serve on Belron's Board, he has now dedicated himself to philanthropic endeavours.
At Belron, Gary established a strong culture of giving back, exemplified by the Spirit of Belron Challenge. What began in 2001 with six colleagues grew to include over 12,000 participants by 2023, raising tens of millions for Afrika Tikkun. His personal commitment is demonstrated through his participation in the triathlon event every year since its inception.
Following his MBA at London Business School, Gary established the Gary Lubner Scholarship, supporting African students in pursuing their studies. His broader philanthropic work includes chairing and serving on boards of various organisations including the Nelson Mandela Legacy Trust and Afrika Tikkun.
In 2023, Gary founded This Day Foundation, focusing on early childhood development and youth unemployment in South Africa, and supporting refugee and asylum causes in the UK. Leadership development is a central theme in his work, supporting organisations such as the Obama Foundation and the Clore Social Leadership programme.
His commitment to creating positive change extends to political engagement, supporting the Labour Party in their mission to create better opportunities for young people. As an advisor to Spring Impact, he helps scale social innovations to maximise their impact and reach.
Gary's role with One to One Children's Fund represents a cornerstone of his philanthropic commitments, where he continues to advocate for and support innovative approaches to improving children's lives around the world, bringing his extensive experience in organisational leadership and scaling operations to benefit vulnerable young people.
